Got up quite early today 4:15. Sat out before our room enjoying the silence of the cold clear night, milky way watching time again. Today we will start very early to the Dunes of the Namib Desert around Sesrim/Sossusvlei. Breakfast at 5:30, we are on the road around 6:00. 7:00 we reach the gate of the national park. 7:10 sunrise and at at 7:30 we reach Dune 45, one of the most populous dunes at Sossusvlei. there are already some Trucks, busses and cars here . Dunes is about 170 eteres high. uphill climb begins. After 50 meters altitude you start to the the soft sand. All this sand comes from the Orange River, washed the Stones, transported into the Atlantic ocean, driven north by a stream in the ocean and then brought to the beach. the rest of the work was done by western winds here. the orange color of the dunes comes from iron. so it’s basically rust. The view from the dunes is phantasmic: blue sky, orange dunes and after the rain here last week even some spots of green. After we recover we continue to a place called Deadvlei, its a salt plane within the dunes, here we had to 4-wheel drive cars, because the road is complete made of soft sand.. another exhausting walk thourg the sands ( sand is soft and the temperature reaches 37 degrees Celsius )
Namibia Dunes in three words: I hate sand .. .
big Daddy dune, about 380 meter high
After that we cool down in a bar, shadow and lots of cool drinks, Lunch next and then next destination : Sesriem Canyon, maybe some of the smalls Canyoins in Namibia. about 20-25 meters deep but only 15-2 meters tall. If you climb down, shadow, cool. windy, and practically no sand, only rocks to walk on .. i love rocky ground. it end at the remains of a little rive, with still some water left. Back to Hammerstein lodge, shower and another catwalk to my loved large cats

After #mycat Hugo got his own blog, i decided several weeks ago,
that i want another blog for me.
I want to write here about Photography, Travel, Twitter and sometimes tech/equipment/software.
I will publish some of my photos here (mainly no cat content, although some large cats will play a role here). Blog posts will be in english, sometimes i will add a german translation. Funny side effect: first i write the english version and then retranslate it to german .. .
Name of the Blog ? Don’t ask, i just played around with the words:
#Nikon, #iPad, #icons, #Cat and #Content and then selected #NiConCat .
As some friends know or may have noticed, our next holiday trip will start now.
Our destination is (finally !!) Africa again; This is our fourth trip to Africa.
This means, i won’t have much time for Twitter, as i don’t know, when i will have the time
or an online Inet connection, so i will try to keep you informed here.
Tour will start monday 24th in Frankfurt to Capetown, South Africa, tour overview will follow later.
